Sit With It. Feel. Just Be.

Updated: Jun 20, 2022

If you're doing yoga right, you will feel all. the. things.

When I first got into yoga, I had no idea the emotions that would come up. Most days, I come out feeling stronger and lighter. But, some days after my practice, I feel weepy, reflective, vulnerable, happy, or grateful. Sometimes I don't know what I feel. If you have been here, you know what I mean. If not, you will.

I've put together a few tips to help you be at ease during your next practice.

Tip #1 - Hip opener=Can opener

Our hips are our emotional 'junk drawers'. Energy gets stuck here and releasing it through hip opening asanas can be very therapeutic and freeing.

Tip #2 - Sometimes you will cry.

And that's ok.

Tip #3 - Just Breathe.

Breathing floods your body with fresh oxygen, which will reduce cortisol, lower heart rate, and improve brain function. Overall, helping you better understand and work through your feelings.

Tip #4 - Mix it up

If you experienced some strong emotions during practice, your body will automatically associate those asanas with stress, leading to you dreading or avoiding going to your mat. Mix up your practice to keep it fun and fresh!

Tip #5 - Set an Intention.

Take advantage of the quiet time you take for your practice. Be intentional with your thoughts and movements. Get to know yourself. Work on you. Practice meditation. Make your world a better place, there is always room for improvement.

So sit with it. Even though you want to run and it is difficult. There is work in being still.
